Combating Food Insecurity: Dollar General's Unwavering Commitment to Feeding America

In a remarkable display of corporate social responsibility, Dollar General has extended its partnership with Feeding America for a fourth consecutive year, pledging an additional million to support the organization's efforts in addressing the pressing issue of national food insecurity. This latest contribution builds upon the company's previous donations, totaling over million and providing more than 33 million meals through in-kind food donations since 2021.

Empowering Communities, Nourishing Families

Strengthening the Feeding America Partnership

Dollar General's ongoing collaboration with Feeding America has been a testament to the company's dedication to making a tangible difference in the lives of those facing food insecurity. Denine Torr, Dollar General's vice president of corporate social responsibility and philanthropy, expressed the company's pride in the positive impact this partnership has had, stating, "As America's largest retailer by store count, we are proud of the positive impact our Feeding America partnership continues to make in combatting food insecurity and increasing access to nutritious food."

Expanding Donation Efforts

The company's commitment to addressing food insecurity extends beyond financial contributions. Dollar General currently donates to more than 3,000 communities through its stores and distribution centers, with an average of 1.9 million pounds of grocery items, equivalent to over 1 million meals, being donated each month. Furthermore, the company has taken a significant step forward by expanding its donation efforts to include all private brand categories, encompassing food, pet food, hygiene items, baby products, cleaning supplies, and more, starting in February 2024.

Leveraging Nationwide Presence

With over 20,000 stores and 32 distribution centers across the United States, Dollar General is uniquely positioned to play a pivotal role in the fight against hunger. The company's extensive reach allows it to efficiently channel resources and support to communities in need, ensuring that more people have access to the food and resources they require to thrive.

Innovative Initiatives for Improved Food Access

Beyond its Feeding America partnership, Dollar General has taken proactive steps to enhance food accessibility and affordability for its customers. As of March 2024, the company offers fresh produce in more than 5,400 stores, a significant expansion that brings nutritious options closer to communities. Additionally, the company has partnered with Shelf Engine to improve perishable food forecasting and ordering efficiency, reducing food waste and ensuring a more reliable supply of fresh, affordable produce.

Empowering Customers with Affordable Essentials

Recognizing the importance of providing convenient access to affordable essentials, Dollar General has expanded its Clover Valley private label brand through its "Food First" initiative. This strategic move aims to offer customers a wider range of high-quality, cost-effective options, further contributing to the company's mission of addressing food insecurity and supporting the well-being of the communities it serves.

A Collaborative Approach to Ending Hunger

The success of Dollar General's efforts in combating food insecurity is not solely its own. The company's continued and generous commitments to Feeding America have been instrumental in the organization's ability to reach more people in need. As Claire Babineaux Fontenot, Feeding America's chief executive officer, eloquently stated, "We can end hunger in this country when we work together." This collaborative approach, with Dollar General as a steadfast partner, holds the promise of a future where no one in America goes without access to the nourishment they require.
