On June 28, 2024, Lexington fire crews were called to a house fire in the 100 block of Addie Lucas Road. After extinguishing the blaze, the Lexington County Fire Services determined that the fire appeared to be suspicious in nature and launched an investigation to determine the cause.

Investigators Uncover Disturbing Details

Through their investigation, deputies say they were able to determine that the suspect, Tracy Chad Russell, Jr., not only knew that three people were inside the home when he allegedly used torch fuel canisters to intentionally set it ablaze, but he also left the property after the fire started and never returned.

Suspect Apprehended in Neighboring County

Lexington County Investigators spoke with witnesses and those involved in the incident to piece together the timeline of events. They were able to track down Russell in Orangeburg County, where he was taken into custody.

Charges and Detention

According to the arrest warrants, Russell is facing three counts of attempted murder and a single count of second-degree arson. He is currently being held in the Lexington County Detention Center, awaiting a bond hearing.
