Expanding Horizons: The Children's Museum of St. Tammany's Exciting New Chapter

The Children's Museum of St. Tammany is embarking on a new and exciting chapter as it prepares to reopen in its larger, more versatile Mandeville location. This move, necessitated by the parish's decision to end the museum's lease on its previous site, has turned out to be a blessing in disguise, providing the opportunity for the museum to grow and enhance its offerings for young visitors and their families.

Unlocking New Possibilities for Enrichment and Exploration

A Spacious New Home, Familiar Favorites, and Exciting Additions

When the Children's Museum of St. Tammany reopens in its new Mandeville home, young visitors will be delighted to find the same beloved exhibits and activities that have captivated them for years. However, the museum's relocation to a larger, 4,000-square-foot space in Pelican Plaza has unlocked new possibilities for growth and expansion. The new location boasts a dedicated party room, allowing the museum to host more events and celebrations, as well as proximity to family-friendly businesses, creating a more vibrant and engaging environment for visitors.

Overcoming Challenges, Embracing Opportunities

The decision to relocate the museum was not without its challenges. When Parish President Mike Cooper's office announced the termination of the museum's lease on Koop Drive, the immediate concern was finding a suitable location for the museum's popular summer camps. Undeterred, the museum's staff, board members, and advisory board members worked tirelessly to identify potential new homes, scouring locations from Madisonville to Covington to Mandeville. Ultimately, the new space on Florida Avenue proved to be the perfect fit, aligning with the museum's desire to remain in Mandeville and its partnership with the city.

Strengthening Partnerships, Expanding Reach

The museum's move to Mandeville has also opened up new opportunities for collaboration and community engagement. The museum's partnership agreement with the city of Mandeville will allow for exciting activities and events to be held at the Tammany Trace trailhead, further integrating the museum into the local community. Additionally, the museum's proximity to other family-friendly destinations, such as Kids and Family Arena and the Triple Nickel Grill, promises to create a vibrant hub of entertainment and enrichment for children and their families.

Adapting to Change, Embracing the Future

While the new location may not offer the same natural outdoor space as the previous site near the Kids Konnection playground, the museum has found creative ways to maintain its connection to the great outdoors. Through a partnership with Pelican Park, the museum will be able to host its back-to-school bash, ensuring that families can still enjoy the museum's programming in a picturesque setting. As the Children's Museum of St. Tammany prepares to open its doors in its new Mandeville home, the excitement and anticipation are palpable. This move, once seen as a challenge, has now become an opportunity for the museum to expand its reach, enhance its offerings, and continue to inspire and educate the young minds of St. Tammany Parish and beyond.
