Lyndhurst Police Blotter: Drunk Driving, Stolen Vehicles, and Identity Theft Incidents Reported

The Lyndhurst Police Department has reported a series of incidents in the city, including drunk driving, stolen vehicles, and identity theft. The incidents occurred over a period of several days in July, highlighting the diverse range of challenges faced by law enforcement in the area.

Uncovering a Trail of Reckless Behavior and Stolen Property

Drunk Driving Incident on Richmond Road

In the early hours of July 13th, a caller reported that a dark blue car had struck a tree on Richmond Road and then fled the scene, heading northbound. The vehicle was later stopped on Ridgebury Boulevard, where officers from Highland Heights and Mayfield Heights police departments were already present. The driver, a 34-year-old man from Mayfield Heights, was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI). His blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.167, well above the state's legal limit of 0.08.

Warrant Arrest and Fictitious Plates on Richmond Road

On July 10th, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that appeared to have an illegal window tint and was displaying a license plate that belonged to another car. The driver, a 31-year-old woman from Cleveland, was cited for the window tint violation and the use of fictitious plates. Further investigation revealed that the license plate belonged to a car that had been reported stolen from Cleveland. The woman was also found to have an outstanding warrant from the Willoughby Police Department and was arrested on that warrant.

High-Speed Chase on Mayfield Road

In the early hours of July 8th, an automated license plate reader alerted police that a car traveling on Richmond Road near Legacy Village and Cedar Road had been reported stolen from a Euclid address. A Lyndhurst police officer attempted to stop the vehicle in front of the police station on Mayfield Road, but the driver refused to comply and instead fled at a high rate of speed, reaching up to 80 miles per hour. Lyndhurst police eventually lost sight of the vehicle, and Mayfield Heights police were informed of the incident. A Mayfield Heights officer later spotted the car on I-271 northbound, traveling at approximately 100 miles per hour, but did not pursue.

Disturbance Call on Edsal Drive

On July 8th, a caller reported hearing a female screaming and a man laughing inside an Edsal Drive home, followed by the same sounds 30 minutes later. When police arrived at the scene, they learned that the male and female were simply playing a video game and there was no disturbance.

Identity Theft Incident on Mayfield Road

On July 10th, a 41-year-old man from Cleveland reported to the police station that his brother had used his identity during a traffic stop in Lyndhurst. The investigation into this incident is ongoing. These incidents highlight the diverse range of challenges faced by the Lyndhurst Police Department, from addressing drunk driving and stolen vehicles to responding to disturbance calls and investigating identity theft. The department's vigilance and quick response have been instrumental in addressing these issues and maintaining public safety in the community.
